Old wisdom, new instruments
The lab is where the studio keeps its fixed points: the decisions made once and built on, and the instruments it builds to move everything else.
Fixed points
Decide once, write it down, build on it. Tokens, names, and contracts don't drift. The things that shouldn't move, don't. Everything else is free to.
Instruments, not ornaments
Every element earns its place or leaves. Motion answers a hand, color marks a signal, mono measures a fact. If it only decorates, it goes.
Show the work
The system that built this site is on display below: the same tokens, type, and motion running every Labs surface. No secret sauce, just kept promises.
Measured, not decorated
Measure once.
A dimension pulled across the rule as you scroll. The number is read off the scale, not guessed.
Hold the angle.
The arm sweeps and the arc fills to the exact degree. A fixed point the software moves around.
The system, showing itself
One primary action per view. If two things are cranberry, one is wrong.
A number a user compares is mono; a sentence never is.
7-9px controls · 10-14px cards · 16-18px containers · pills only at 99.
cubic-bezier(0.22, 1, 0.36, 1) · transform and opacity only · nothing loops.
Four square-cap arms, one off-axis dot. Draws on once per load, never loops. The only logo the studio owns.
Draw the arc.
The pencil leg swings from the pivot and the circle is inked in one pass. The radius stays put.
True the edges.
The set square is traced edge by edge. Every element earns its place or leaves.
